Graduates from the TRiO program

Since 2001, TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) at Pierce College Fort Steilacoom has received federal funding from the Department of Education to provide student services that promote the academic development and motivation needed for successful completion of post-secondary degree and transfer goals. Annually, TRiO SSS provides holistic services to 160 eligible students who identify as first generation, low income, and students with disabilities from diverse backgrounds that present an academic need for support. TRiO SSS goals are to increase the retention, graduation and university transfer for all enrolled TRiO SSS students.

TRiO SSS provides proactive transfer advising, strengths based mentoring, financial and career guidance, cultural activities, tutoring, and transfer assistance for students enrolled at Fort Steilacoom campus. Many of our TRiO SSS students have graduated and currently attend private and public universities locally and around the United States such as Central Washington University, Eastern Washington University, Pacific Lutheran, Pepperdine University, Simpson University, University of Hawaii, University of Washington, Washington State University and many more.

TRiO SSS has grown to over 1000 programs nationally since its beginnings in 1968. Pierce TRiO SSS graduates have a nationwide family support network that we refer and connect students to as they continue on to complete their bachelors, masters and doctorate degree aspirations.

TRiO SSS program is funded 100% through a federal TRiO grant by the U.S. Department of Education until August 31, 2020. Services are contingent upon grant renewal.
